In August, the Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging published a study conducted by researchers from the University of Helnsinki, Finland. In 1974 and 1975, they asked for 1,222 middle-aged male workers born in the years 1919-1934 to become participants for 40 years. During this period, participants were asked to carry out their activities as usual and record each date used for leave from work.

The participants were divided into two groups, namely the control group consisting of 610 men and the remaining 612 were included in the intervention group. In the intervention group, they were given diet advice, maintaining ideal body weight and carrying out physical activities suggested by the researchers. Whereas, in the control group they were given the freedom to live their life patterns and were not limited by medical recommendations such as intervention groups.

The first results of the study revealed quite surprising results

In the first 5 years of the study, the intervention group experienced a significant reduction in cardiovascular risk compared to the control group. However, strangely, in the 15 years after the study began, the mortality rate was even higher in the intervention group than in the control group.

To find out the cause of this, the researchers made deeper observations of the data that had been submitted by the participants over the past few years. And exactly 40 years of research, the results of the research stated that the cause of death in the intervention group was not cardiovascular disease, but the pressure from work and lack of hours of sleep caused prolonged stress.

Research conclusions were obtained in 2014

In 2014, just 40 years into the study period, the researchers succeeded in drawing conclusions. According to them, 37 percent of people who leave less than 3 weeks per year are prone to death at a young age. This is caused by excessive work and lack of hours of sleep.
